Determine what knowledge, skills and attitudes apply to your context
You can formulate knowledge, skills and attitudes for each media literacy competence, depending on the objectives, target group and context. Therefore, think carefully about who needs what in which situation, what is still missing and where you can provide support.
By way of example, we have listed some specific knowledge, skills and attitudes per competence below (K, S, A). Based on this, the development of media wisdom initiatives and the measurement of their impact can be started. But the effective translation continues to depend on your initiative, the goal and the target group.

- A: You look forward to learning what you do not yet know about media.
- Navigating
- K: You know which media you use best for which activities.
- S: You can select the media according to your goal, target group and context.
- A: You feel positive towards the possibilities that media can offer.
- Organising
- K: You know how to store, structure or retrieve media.
- S: You can save, structure or retrieve media.
- A: You feel confident about finding media quickly and easily.
- Producing
- K: You know how to make or process text, photo, video, audio, games, websites, etc. or transform it into something new.
- S: You can create or process text, photo, video, audio, games, websites, etc. or transform it into something new.
- A: You enjoy creating and adjusting media yourself.
- Observing
- K: You know that each medium has its own users, language, form and function.
- S: You can see how media differ from one another in terms of user profiles, language, form and function.
- A: You respect the distintiveness of each medium.
- Analysing
- K: You know how to find out more about the users, the language, the form and the function of each medium.
- S: You can find out the users, language, form and function of each medium.
- A: You spontaneauosly think critical about the consequences of the differences in the users, language, form and function of each medium.
- Evaluating
- K: You know what to look out for when evaluating media for relevance and reliability.
- S: You can evaluate media by relevance and reliability.
- A: You are prepared to evaluate the pro's and con's of a medium based upon it's relevance and reliability
- Reflecting
- K: You know what you can or cannot do in certain media.
- S: You can identify and correct deficiencies in your own behavior and that of others where necessary.
- A: You feel prepared to reflect on your own media behavior.
The Mediawijs Competence Model is the result of our quest so far. It's a starting point and a living model with handles to formulate the concrete framework for your own medium, target group and context.
